In Yet Another Zombie Survivors you start each run with one Survivor and recruit up to two more, and the weapons and abilities of your three-Survivor squad combine into cross-Survivor synergies. This calculator answers the practical question behind every recruitment choice: if I run these Survivors together, what synergies can I activate — and who should my third Survivor be?

How Do Team Synergies Work?

The confirmed foundation, per the official Version 1.0 materials:

  • You start a run with one Survivor and can recruit up to two more, forming a three-Survivor squad.
  • Weapons and abilities across those Survivors combine into cross-Survivor synergies — combined effects that no single Survivor can produce alone.
  • Team composition is therefore a synergy decision: two individually average Survivors can outperform two stars when their kits activate a strong combined effect.

The per-synergy detail — which Survivor pair and which ability each synergy requires — is being documented in the synergy database as in-game testing confirms it, and every confirmed entry flows straight into the calculator above.

How Do You Use the Calculator?

  1. Select your first Survivor — your lead. The calculator immediately shows the best partners for that pick.
  2. Select your second Survivor — the tool lists the current pair’s synergies and ranks the best third Survivors, with a reason for each recommendation.
  3. Select your third Survivor — you get the full team analysis: every synergy the squad can activate, which are conditional on abilities acquired during the run, and which are one recruit away.

Selections are reflected in the page URL, so the Copy Link button gives you a shareable link to your exact team — useful for Reddit, Discord or comparing notes with co-op partners.

How Many Survivors Can Be in a Team?

Three. You begin every run with a single Survivor and can recruit up to two more as the run progresses. That hard cap is what makes the third slot the most debated decision in Version 1.0: there are 9 Survivors — SWAT, Tank, Medic, Pyro, Ghost, Huntress, Engineer, Mechanic and Ranger — and only three slots. Ranger, the newest Survivor, is unlocked at Survival Level 175.

How Do You Choose Your Third Survivor?

By the time the third slot opens, you know what your run has offered you, so choose on synergy requirements rather than tier rankings alone:

  • Check what your pair already activates. The calculator’s “current pair synergies” view shows what is online and what is one recruit away.
  • Prefer the recruit that completes a synergy plan. A mid-tier Survivor who activates a strong combined effect usually beats a higher-tier Survivor who adds nothing your squad can use.
  • Mind conditional synergies. A synergy marked conditional needs a specific ability acquired during the run — selecting the Survivors alone does not switch it on.

Our best team page applies the same logic at the squad level, and the tier list ranks Survivors separately as leaders and as recruits for exactly this reason.

Why Isn’t the Best Team Just the Three Best Survivors?

Because synergies multiply, they do not add. Three individually strong Survivors with no cross-Survivor interaction are just three separate kits sharing a screen; a slightly weaker trio whose weapons and abilities combine into active synergies outperforms them. “Best team” is a property of the squad, not of any single Survivor — which is why the best team and tier list pages evaluate different things, and why this calculator exists to test specific combinations before you commit a run to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best team in Yet Another Zombie Survivors?

There is no confirmed single best team yet — Version 1.0 launched on August 20, 2026, and squad testing is still settling. The reliable principle is confirmed: build around one strong lead, two complementary recruits, and the cross-Survivor synergies their kits activate. See best team for the current community-reported compositions.

Which Survivors work best together?

The synergy database lists all 24 Version 1.0 pair synergies with their required abilities and effects. The calculator above answers it directly for any pair or trio — select your Survivors and it lists what the combination activates and who adds the most as a third.

How do synergies work in YAZS?

You start with one Survivor and recruit up to two more. Weapons and abilities from different Survivors in the squad combine into cross-Survivor synergies — combined effects no single Survivor can produce alone. Some synergies also require a specific ability to be acquired during the run before they activate.

How many Survivors can you recruit?

Two, for a total squad of three: the Survivor you start the run with plus up to two recruits. The beginner guide covers when recruitment opens and how to time it.

What is the best third Survivor?

It depends on your first two. Select your current pair in the calculator above and the “Best Third Survivor” panel ranks every remaining Survivor by what they add — new synergies first — with a plain-language reason for each recommendation.

Can every Survivor create synergies?

The confirmed system is that weapons and abilities across your squad combine into cross-Survivor synergies, so any Survivor can participate — but which specific pairs and abilities combine, and what each combination does, is exactly what we are verifying in-game before publishing. Entries appear in the synergy database only after confirmation.
