Yet Another Zombie Survivors Tier List — Best Survivors Ranked
YAZS Survivor tier list for Version 1.0: overall rankings, best Survivors for beginners, Boss Rush and Endless, plus the best team leaders and recruits.
Yet Another Zombie Survivors has 9 Survivors in Version 1.0 — SWAT, Tank, Medic, Pyro, Ghost, Huntress, Engineer, Mechanic and Ranger — and because you build a three-Survivor squad every run, “who is best” really means three questions: who is best overall, who is best to lead with, and who is best to recruit.
How Do We Rank Survivors?
Every placement on this page weighs the same five criteria:
- Early-game stability — how well the Survivor performs before any recruits or upgrades.
- Scaling — how much stronger the Survivor gets across a long run.
- Synergy potential — how many strong cross-Survivor synergies the kit can enable.
- Flexibility — how many team compositions the Survivor fits into.
- Ease of use — how forgiving the Survivor is while you are still learning.
What Is the Overall Survivor Tier List?
This is the general-purpose ranking: how much each Survivor contributes to a typical three-Survivor squad in a typical run.
| Tier | Survivors | Why (community-reported) |
|---|---|---|
| S | Under review | We are not naming S-tier picks until Version 1.0 testing settles. |
| A | Under review | Same — strong candidates exist, but verification comes first. |

Who Are the Best Survivors for Beginners?
Beginners should weight ease of use and early-game stability above everything else. The community-reported pattern so far:
- Durable, straightforward kits rank highest. Survivors that forgive positioning mistakes let you learn recruitment timing and wave patterns without constant restarts. Tank reads as the natural durability pick, and SWAT reads as a balanced starter.
- Sustain ranks high. A Medic-style sustain pick extends runs while you learn.
- Combo-dependent kits rank lower for now. Anything that only shines once a specific synergy is online is a poor teacher.
Our beginner guide turns this into a concrete first-run plan.
Who Are the Best Survivors for Boss Rush?
Boss Rush, added in Version 1.0, is back-to-back boss encounters, so the ranking shifts toward single-target burst and fast-starting kits, and away from slow wave-scaling setups. Precision- and burst-oriented Survivors — Huntress and Ghost read this way by role — are the community’s early favorites, but exact Boss Rush rankings are still under review alongside the Boss Rush team testing.
Who Are the Best Survivors for Endless?
Endless-style long runs reward the opposite profile: scaling, durability and sustain matter more than early speed. Tank-as-anchor and Medic-as-sustain is the classic community template for long-run squads, with the third slot going to the best late-game damage scaler. This is also the squad style most players use while grinding toward Ranger’s unlock at Survival Level 175.
Who Are the Best Team Leaders?
Your leader is the Survivor you start the run with, so leader rankings care almost entirely about the solo early game:
- A great leader clears early waves alone and reaches recruitment safely.
- A great leader also sets the team’s direction — its damage type or role is what the recruits build around.
These criteria can rank a Survivor highly as a leader even if its late-game ceiling is modest. The reverse is true for recruits, which is why the two lists differ.
Who Are the Best Recruits?
Recruits are judged on what they add to an existing squad:
- First recruits are ranked on how well they patch a lead’s weakness — sustain behind a fragile lead, damage behind a slow one.
- Second recruits are ranked on synergy potential — how many strong cross-Survivor synergies their abilities can activate, which you can check in the synergy database.
Mechanic and Ranger are the two Survivors the community is most actively testing in recruit slots right now, because their kits are the least figured out in Version 1.0.
