Is Yet Another Zombie Survivors Multiplayer or Co-op?

Is Yet Another Zombie Survivors multiplayer or co-op? No — it is single-player. Your three-Survivor squad is AI companions recruited inside your own run.

Is Yet Another Zombie Survivors multiplayer?

No. Yet Another Zombie Survivors is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer, no online co-op, no couch co-op and no shared runs with friends — on any platform.

The confusion is understandable: you spend each run commanding a squad of up to three Survivors, which looks a lot like a co-op party. But every member of that squad is an AI companion recruited inside your own run, not another player.

So why does it look like co-op?

Because squad play is the game’s signature mechanic. You start each run with a single Survivor and recruit up to two more as the run progresses, ending with a three-Survivor squad whose weapons and abilities combine into cross-Survivor synergies. The other two squad members fight, level and synergize alongside you automatically — you build the team, the AI runs it with you.

In practice this gives you much of what people want from co-op:

  • Role coverage. A frontline bruiser, a damage dealer and a support-style Survivor covering the screen together — the classic co-op fantasy, executed solo.
  • Build collaboration. Choosing recruits is like drafting teammates; the best team compositions exist precisely because squad members complement each other.
  • Shared screen chaos. Three sets of weapons firing at once scratches the same itch as a co-op bullet heaven.

If you are deciding whether to buy the game for co-op nights: this is not that game. If you want a deep single-player squad builder, it very much is.

Will co-op be added later?

The honest position: unknown. The squad system means the game feels designed for it, which fuels constant community requests on the official Discord and r/YAZS — but a popular request is not a roadmap. Until the developer says otherwise, plan on YAZS staying single-player.

What can I do with friends instead?

  • Compare builds and achievements. The achievement list and tier list debates are the community’s real multiplayer mode.
  • Race the progression. Whoever unlocks Ranger at Survival Level 175 first wins.
  • Share your Torments clears. The 28 Torments added in 1.0 are the natural bragging-rights content — see the missions hub for how they work.
